Page 58 - Dark Matter Women Witnessing

On a boat trip the day we arrived, we were able to sidle up to the shore where
many elephants were splashing in the water.
Exhilarating as it was to watch them, I was hoping, as I had in the past, for some
sign that contact would be made on this journey. Soon something called the
herd inland and they began walking up the hill away from the river. As we were
about to turn away, a young elephant, much like a teenage girl, reversed herself
and came trotting down the trail to the water, turned to go back, then stopped
and held my gaze, almost coquettishly, for a few minutes. Unprecedented.
Lynne, who had only heard a few stories of our history with elephants from Matt,
looked at me. “She knows you,” Lynne said. The small connection and Lynne’s
confirmation boded well.
